Best stores for AI agent shopping

TL;DR. If you want an AI agent to place a real order, start with a store that can return a checkout quote. With Nook, those stores are Amazon, Uber Eats, Instacart, Walmart, Target, and Chewy. Each fits a different kind of request — household goods, restaurant delivery, groceries, pickup, or pet supplies. DoorDash, Urban Outfitters, Resy, Detoure, Delta, and Apple can be connected today but cannot quote yet. Use the store the person already has an account with; Nook shops inside that account, not a separate storefront.

How to read this list

This is not a ranking of retailers. It is a map of where an agent can get a real checkout today, and when each store is the right one to ask.

On every quote-capable store, Nook signs in as the person in a fresh cloud browser. The quote comes from the store's own checkout: product, quantity, each charge, the total, the address, and the payment method. One quote is one order and can include several products; Nook adds them, reads checkout once, and puts the cart back. The person's yes buys it, in chat or with Buy on the review page. Nook buys at the quoted total or less, and stops if the total went up or the item, address, or card changed.

A quote takes about a minute on Amazon, Instacart, Walmart, and Chewy, and two to three minutes on Uber Eats. For field-level limits, see stores.md and the agent guide. The approve flow is in How AI agents check out online.

1. Amazon — everyday products, shipped to a saved address

Use Amazon when the person wants a product sold on Amazon: household goods, a named brand and size, a 12-pack, something that should arrive at a saved address.

Nook looks up the product in the person's words, including pack or size. For a general request, it picks the cheapest listing that fits. When listings differ, the agent should show each picture, price, and link and let the person choose — never invent other brands or ask for an ASIN; the listings already carry it.

Nook selects the saved address and card the request asked for. An agent can add a new Amazon delivery address first when the person explicitly asks to save or use one. Only the items Nook added are checked out; the rest of the Amazon cart stays as it was.

Not yet on Amazon: tips, delivery dates, and item options.

2. Uber Eats — one restaurant, with real menu choices

Use Uber Eats when the person wants food from a restaurant on Uber Eats, including specific sides, sauces, or "no cheese."

The request has to name the restaurant or give its Uber Eats store link. Each order is from that one restaurant. Choices the person asked for are matched to the menu and checked in the cart. A required choice they skipped is asked — never guessed or defaulted.

Delivery goes to a saved Uber Eats address (by name, street, or city) or to a US street address. Tips can be a dollar amount or a percentage; if nobody asked, the quote shows the tip Uber preselected. After the order is placed, the agent can refresh status, tracking, and any arrival estimate. That update is not a new purchase and does not message the courier.

3. Instacart — groceries and household goods from a retailer

Use Instacart when the person wants groceries or other products a retailer sells through Instacart, and they care which store the items come from — or they want help finding that store.

Name the retailer, or let Nook search across stores that deliver to the destination. If the retailer is omitted, Nook can return a few listing offers (retailer, price, size) so the person can choose instead of naming a store from memory. Those listing prices are not final totals or proof of stock. After they pick, the agent quotes that retailer-scoped listing. Delivery is to a saved Instacart address or a US street address, checked again at checkout, from that one store.

4. Walmart — shipping or pickup, store-first inventory

Use Walmart when the person wants something Walmart sells, especially if they want pickup at a store or shipping to the address saved on the account.

Ask in the person's words with a size, or use Walmart's item number when you have it. Nook looks at what Walmart sells itself first, including a pack sold as another listing's option. It uses a marketplace seller only when nothing else fits, and never for pickup. The quote names the seller. Quantity follows Walmart's limit: up to 12 of each product. Payment is the card Walmart has selected; Nook checks it and does not switch it.

Not yet on Walmart: same-day delivery, delivery windows, tips, other addresses, and substitution preferences. Some stores require a reserved pickup time, which Nook does not reserve yet. Pending unpriced rows, such as a bag fee, are listed separately and left out of the total.

5. Target — shipping or pickup, with the right pack inside a product family

Use Target when the person wants something Target sells, and they may want pickup at a nearby Target or shipping to their saved address.

Nook finds the product by the person's words and size, or by Target's item number. Many packs and sizes belong to one family; Nook opens that family and picks the requested option. If the person does not say pickup or shipping, the agent should ask — Target can default to pickup at a store that may not be the one they meant.

Pickup is at the Target nearest the saved Target address, or at a store the person names. Shipping goes to the saved address. Quantity follows Target's limit: up to 6 of each product. Payment is the card Target has selected.

Not yet on Target: same-day delivery, delivery windows, tips, other addresses, and substitution preferences.

6. Chewy — pet supplies as a one-time purchase

Use Chewy when the person wants pet food or supplies from their Chewy account, shipped, as a single order rather than a repeating subscription.

Chewy often selects Autoship by default. Nook chooses Buy once instead, so the quote is a one-time purchase. Shipping goes to the address selected in the Chewy account. Quantity follows Chewy's own limit: up to 50 of each product.

Items already in the Chewy cart are moved to Saved for Later while Nook quotes, then brought back. If that restore cannot be confirmed, the person should check Saved for Later.

Payment is whatever Chewy has selected — a card or Venmo. The person can add a card for Chewy on their accounts page. Card details stay on Nook's private form; nobody should ask for them in chat.

Stores you can connect now, without quotes yet

These six accounts can be linked today. The person and their agent can see the connection. They do not yet return a checkout quote:

  1. DoorDash
  2. Urban Outfitters
  3. Resy
  4. Detoure
  5. Delta
  6. Apple

Connect a store if the person already uses that account. Connecting it early does not enable hidden checkout. If they ask to buy there before quotes exist, the agent should say Nook cannot quote that store yet.

Stores Nook learns from a web address

Nook can learn a new store from its site. Once it has verified a checkout there, a connected account can get a quote for one product at a time, shipped to the address that store's checkout selects.

If that store keeps no saved card, the person types their card on Nook's review page when they buy. Nook keeps nothing. The cart at that store must be empty; Nook will not change items the person already placed there.

How to choose in practice

Ask two questions before you pick a store:

  1. Does the person already have an account there? Nook uses the accounts they connect. It does not create a new retailer relationship for them.
  2. Can that store quote today? If they want a real total and an order, use Amazon, Uber Eats, Instacart, Walmart, Target, or Chewy. If they only want the account linked for later, the connect-only list is fine.

Then match the job:

If two quote-capable stores could work, use the one whose account, address book, and payment method already match what the person asked for.

Get started

People / buyers: connect the stores you already use at nookstore.xyz/v3/accounts. Sign in with your phone, then go back to your agent. A step-by-step walkthrough is in Let ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor buy — with your approval.

Agents / developers: register a partner key and send a connection link, starting from the quickstart or the agent guide. Quote only on a connection the person granted you, and buy only after they approve the total.

Nook is in private beta. Connecting accounts is free during the beta, and Nook adds nothing to a store's checkout. More questions — safety, cancellation, what the agent can see — are in the AI agent shopping FAQ.
